3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Tour Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Ruhengeri – Volcanoes National Park

After being picked up from your Kigali accommodation or Airport, you will be driven to Ruhengeri, also known as Musanze, which is the closest location to Rwanda’s northern province’s Volcanoes National Park. The drive from Kigali takes three hours.

After checking into your accommodation, you can choose to relax and spend the evening at leisure or take an optional community trip around Ruhengeri to get a taste of Rwandan culture. Dinner and a stay at the lodge of your choice.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda

By six in the morning, breakfast will be ready, and your packed lunch will be ready too. Bring adequate water for the entire day, and arrive at the park headquarters by 7:00 am so that gorilla groups may be assigned and registered. Kinigi offers free hot coffee, tea, and milk, which you can sip while taking in the sights of the local cultural dancers.

Following the briefing, you can either start the walk immediately or drive a short distance to the beginning site where the actual journey begins, depending on which gorilla family you are assigned to. Depending on the gorillas’ movements, a gorilla trek in Rwanda often lasts between two and six hours. But the guides will make an effort to locate them from their last known location from the day before!

You will get a maximum of one hour after you locate them to spend with them while they go about their regular activities, which include eating, grooming, sleeping, and playing with the younger ones.

Once the hour is done, you will exit the Park’s forested slopes and the ranger guide will give you your Rwanda Gorilla trekking certificate.

After, return with your driver/guide to your previous accommodation for the night.

Day 3: Return to the Airport or your residence

After a satisfying breakfast, you’ll be transferred back to Kigali city for a city tour that includes stops at the museum, the Genocide Memorial Site, and the crafts markets where you may purchase for souvenirs. After that, head home or to the airport to catch your next trip.
